Instrument: Cello
Hometown: Owatonna, Minn.
Piece: David Popper — Hungarian Rhapsody, Op.68
Why did you choose this piece?
David Popper was a talented cellist and a prolific composer. He wrote many demanding pieces for cello, including several that specifically showcase the versatility of the instrument. Hungarian Rhapsody is one of those showpieces. It includes a mix of emotions, ranging from "dramatic opera singer" to "gypsy csardas". I love playing this piece, as it is entertaining and showcases my favorite instrument of all time. (Except for the bagpipes, but I don't know how to play those...yet.)
