With a hat tip to Cole Porter, it’s time for “Another Openin’, Another Show…” with new seasons and beginnings.
Minnesota Opera will have fabulous weather for Ópera Afuera (Opera Outdoors) at Allianz Field Wednesday night.
Minnesota Orchestra welcomes back violinist Joshua Bell and begins a year-long farewell to conductor Osmo Vänskä by reuniting the two musicians. They collaborated for Osmo’s very first Minnesota appearance. Hear Beethoven’s Fifth and Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy broadcast live on YourClassicalMPR this Friday evening at 8:00.
Then, get to bed early so you can rise at dawn for the annual Minnesota Duck Hunting opener. I’m glad Daffy Duck learned Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody to express his distaste for the occasion, and even happier to discover that another enthusiast created a Looney Tunes mash-up animation for Mel Blanc’s brilliant novelty record of the Daffy Duck Rhapsody. After watching Daffy try to escape Elmer’s double-barreled chase, it’s safe to assume that Daffy would concur with the old maxim: “Duck hunting can never be called a ‘sport’ until the ducks are given guns and allowed to shoot back.”
