If Black Friday seems too dreary a proposition, consider something lighter to sustain your post-Thanksgiving mood. The simple gifts of Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring are in abundance at the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra’s concerts that run Friday thru Sunday. It’s an all-American program that includes both usual and unusual choices.
By special request, the St. Croix Valley Opera hosts “By Special Request,” a Sunday evening of arias and songs from Sondheim to Strauss and Pagliacci to Tannhäuser. In-person or virtual, your ticket benefits young singers and a fledgling opera company that started when the COVID pandemic began.
Theater Latte Da prepares the return of their version of La Boheme. They’re back for the holidays starting Friday with “All is Calm,” the extraordinary true story of the Christmas Eve truce during World War I.
On Monday, James Taylor and Jackson Browne perform at the Xcel Center. Even if James and Jackson somehow couldn’t make it, I’d be forever thankful just to hear their superb bandmate Larry Goldings play piano.
Happy Thanksgiving!
