Composer Shelley Washington says she likes to write music with a big palette that draws from jazz, rock, American folk, and other musical spaces old and new. She also says she likes to find a way to make you tap your foot, while at the same time, “shaking the cages of injustice.” Host Steve Seel features her work “Middlegound” on this week’s show, and in the second hour, we hear selections by the groundbreaking American composer George Crumb, who died last week at the age of 92.
