Composer Valerie Coleman chose to pay tribute to her native town of Louisville, Kentucky, with a work that salutes one of the city’s proudest sons, Muhammad Ali, by invoking the style of a house that permeates the city’s poorer neighborhoods, the “shotgun house” — one that both she and Ali grew up in. Steve Seel features Coleman’s work on Extra Eclectic, in addition to works by Kevin Puts, Isolbel Waller-Bridge and many others.
