This week on Extra Eclectic, we hear works by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who is known as the blueprint of a contemporary composer. He was classically trained and was captivated from a young age by the likes of Debussy, Stockhausen, Cage and Ligeti. His career was versatile as it moved across all genres and circled back to classical many times. He’s had many film scores that were sweeping, dramatic and Oscar-winning. Host Steve Seel salutes the composer, who died last week at 71, with selections highlighting the breadth of Sakamoto's musical range.
