Monday - Franz Schubert: Trout Quintet (recorded 1974)
This exciting performance of Schubert’s Trout Quintet was performed by Peter Serikin (piano), Alexander Schneider (violin), Jaime Laredo (viola), Leslie Parnas (cello) and Julius Levine (double bass). The ensemble was named the Marlboro Festival Quintet and performed on Nov. 5, 1974. The program also included music by Johannes Brahms in the first half.
Tuesday - Gabriel Fauré: ‘Apres un Reve’ (recorded 1975)
Mezzo-soprano Janet Baker made her Schubert Club debut in 1975 with a program featuring the Schubert Club’s first commissioned work. Listen to a recording from the concert featuring Gabriel Fauré’s ‘Apres un Reve,’ performed alongside pianist Martin Isepp.
Wednesday - Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 31 (recorded 2006)
Norwegian pianist Lefi Ove Andsnes performed a concert featuring music by Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert, Modest Mussorgsky and Ludwig van Beethoven as part of the Schubert Club’s International Artist Series on April 27, 2006. This recording from that concert features Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 31.
Thursday - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: ‘Ach, Ich Fühl’s…’ from The Magic Flute (recorded 1985)
Metropolitan Opera soprano Leontyne Price, with David Garvey on piano, performed on Jan. 8, 1985, for the Schubert Club. This excerpt from that recital features "Ach, Ich Fiihl's" from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute.
Friday - Richard Strauss: Violin Sonata (recorded 1987)
Italian American violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg performed as part of the Schubert Club’s International Artists Series in 1987, during which she performed Richard Strauss’ Violin Sonata alongside pianist Sandra Rivers.
