Jeremy Denk performs Charles Ives' 'The Alcotts'

Oct. 20, 2024, marked the 150th birth anniversary of American composer Charles Ives. Join us in celebrating his life, music and legacy with this captivating performance of the third movement (titled “The Alcotts”) of his Piano Sonata No. 2 (Concord, Mass., 1840-1860), performed here by pianist Jeremy Denk at Minnesota Public Radio's headquarters in St. Paul. Denk was in town as part of the Schubert Club's International Artists Series and was kind enough to stop by our studios in between performances. A tremendous champion of Ives' music, Denk features this piece on his new album, Ives Denk, a two-CD set containing Ives' piano and violin sonatas. The album will be featured on New Classical Tracks in the near future, so make sure to keep an eye out for an exciting interview with host Julie Amacher. Enjoy!
