'A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols' is coming Christmas Eve

Editor's note: YourClassical MPR will broadcast A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at 9 a.m. central Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, hosted by Michael Barone, with a rebroadcast later that day at 7 p.m. central. After that, it will be available here as on-demand audio for 30 days. A booklet for this year's service will be added here about a week before the broadcast.

Since 1918, A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols has offered listeners an opportunity to share in a live, worldwide Christmas Eve broadcast of a service of biblical readings, carols and related seasonal classical music. This special event is presented by the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, one of the world’s foremost choirs of men and boys, and performed in an acoustically and architecturally renowned venue, the college’s 500-year-old chapel.

This year's national broadcast of A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is made possible by generous support from the Hognander Family Foundation.

Choir of King's College celebrates a century of Nine Lessons and Carols
BBC

We're celebrating our annual Christmas Eve broadcast of A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols by giving away copies of the King's College Choir's celebratory album 100 Years of Nine Lessons & Carols. This two-part collection pays tribute to a century’s worth of the iconic service with a mix of new performances and historical recordings not heard since the original BBC broadcasts.

The giveaway starts during the live broadcast on Dec. 24, so be sure to bookmark this page to enter then for a chance to win. Several lucky listeners will be chosen at random and get their choice of the physical or digital versions of the album. You also will be able to share feedback about this year’s presentation and what the annual service means to you.
