Douglas Boyd -- "Dougie" to his colleagues in the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra -- is coming to the end of his six-year tenure as an SPCO artistic partner.
His swan song includes a performance of the Berlioz "L'Enfance du Christ" -- the Childhood of Jesus -- with the SPCO Anniversary Chorale.
It is a piece Boyd was introduced to during his time as the principal oboist of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. The performances this weekend mark his first time conducting the work.
Boyd spoke with Classical host Steve Staruch about his work with the SPCO and this weekend's concerts.

Hear a concert recording of Douglas Boyd and the SPCO from March 15, 2008: Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 4 -- a piece he called a "Symphonic Fantasie" - and the fresher, more inventive early version that Johannes Brahms preferred to later versions.
