The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra has announced next year's season, and it will be one affordable to most everyone.

The SPCO has instituted recession-buster ticket prices for next season for all their concerts beginning at just $10 per ticket.

And with such a varied line-up, one should be able to catch at least one concert next season of our local full-time professional chamber orchestra.

The season opens with a semi-staged version of an opera, Mozart's "Don Giovanni," with the resident opera-aficionado Roberto Abbado.

Newly-minted Artistic partner Christian Zacharias brings some of his expertise to the piano bench, conducting and performing in three programs music by Mozart.

Edo de Waart is the fresh face to the Artistic Partner roster and will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mahler's death with the hauntingly beautiful "Das Lied von der Erde."

Also on the year's line-up is a new commission by Silk Road Ensemble pianist/composer Gabriela Frank, a work written for Dawn Upshaw, as well the orchestra will give the world premiere of a jazz-quartet/orchestra work by Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Brad Mehldau.

SPCO favorite Nicholas McGegan returns for an all-Baroque program as will Amsterdam's masterful Ton Koopman.

Guest artists include violinists Gil Shaham, Leila Josefowicz and Pekka Kuusisto, oboist Heinz Holliger and harpist Ursula Holliger and performances take place at the Ordway, in venues around town as well as at the Walker Art Center and New York's Carnegie Hall.
