Choral Top 10: Dale Warland

Dale Warland
Dale Warland
University of Cincinnati, Conservatory

As part of our Voices of Spring Choral Month, we've asked prominent voices in the Minnesota choral community to tell us their top 10 choral pieces so we could share them with you!

Likewise, don't forget to let us know your favorite choral compositions by casting your vote in our Choral Countdown.

We start this little series for choral month with a local choral legend - Dale Warland. He needs no introduction given his international recognition with his namesake chorus, the Dale Warland Singers.

Before disbanding in 2004 the Dale Warland Singers (established in 1972) were nominated for a Grammy, toured the globe, and made numerous household favorite recordings - I grew up listening to the chorus.

This living legend still resides in Minnesota and we were able to catch him for a moment to see what his Top 10 Choral Pieces would look like. (Students, singers, and conductors, take note!)

Sent to us in this order...

1. Samuel Barber: Reincarnations

2. Irving Fine: The Hour-Glass

3. Sergei Rachmaninoff: All-Night Vigil (Vespers)

4. Arvo Part: Magnificat

5. Dominick Argento: Walden Pond

6. Benjamin Britten: War Requiem

7. Herbert Howells: Requiem

8. Herbert Howells: Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing

9. Frank Martin: Mass for Double Choir

10. Arvo Part: Berliner Mass
