As part of our Voices of Spring Choral Month, we've asked prominent voices in the choral community to tell us their top 10 choral pieces so we could share them with you!

Minnesota native Dr. Jeffrey Douma is a graduate of one of our great collegiate choral institutes, Concordia College (Moorhead).

He is currently the conductor of the famed Yale Glee Club and is Associate Professor of Conducting at the Yale School of Music. After Concordia, Jeffrey Douma went on to receive his MM and DMA at the University of Michigan.

He has taught at Carroll University, Smith College, and our very own Saint Cloud State University. He is a fabulous tenor, and has sung with world class vocal ensembles including the Dale Warland Singers, the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus, and the Robert Shaw Festival Singers.

I had the privilege of observing a Yale Glee Club rehearsal this year and was very impressed by his leadership. He is in his tenth year at Yale and his students are hoping for ten more. It is great to see our home-grown musicians accomplishing great things across the world!

In no particular order...

1. Johann Sebastian Bach: St. Matthew Passion

2. Heinrich Schutz: Musikalische Exequien

2. Frank Martin: Sanctus, fr Mass for Double Choir

4. Herbert Howells: Requiem

5. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Requiem

6. Johannes Brahms: Warum ist das Licht gegeben

7. Maurice Durufle: Requiem

8. Arnold Schoenberg: Friede auf Erden

9. Benjamin Britten: War Requiem (I guess I like Requiems)

10. Orlande de Lassus: Musica dei donum optima
