In January 2011, Video Games Live came to Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. Leading up to that performance, I interviewed co-creator, executive producer and host of the show, Tommy Tallarico.
The article I wrote about Tommy and VGL garnered enough attention that my supervisors encouraged me to make a podcast, and Top Score was born.
Three years later, Video Games Live has just released its third studio album, called Video Games Live: Level 3.
As VGL tours the world year in and year out, Tommy is mindful to add new music. This installment includes music from Journey, Dota 2 and Beyond Good and Evil, to name a few.
You'll get your Zelda fix, and there are other VGL mainstays like Portal's "Still Alive".
In fact, "Still Alive" is one of the most fun tracks on the record, recorded live in Chile. The fans are chanting, whistling and clapping leading up to the start of the music — the energy is contagious.
Fans funded the project through Kickstarter, and VGL: Level 3 is currently the third-highest-grossing album project in the history of the site.
If you're hoping to pick up a copy of Level 3, you can do so on sites like Amazon, iTunes or CD Baby.
But if you want a little more bang for your buck, Tallarico is still allowing purchasers to pick up Kickstarter incentives like concept art and sheet music if you purchase there.
You may subscribe to episodes of Top Score on iTunes.
