PAX East is a giant video game convention in Boston each spring. "Giant" as in 70,000 people flock to the Boston Convention Center in South Boston to get a sneak peak at forthcoming games, to attend panels and to meet men and women who work in the industry in some way, shape or form.
This was my third PAX, having attended last year in Boston and the year before in Seattle. PAX stands for "Penny Arcade Expo" — the first PAX happened in 2004 with a bit more than 3,000 attendees.
I moderated a panel called Maestros of Video Games. The panel guests were composers Garry Schyman, Cris Velasco, Billy Martin, Mark Morgan, Tom Salta and Peter McConnell.
More than 700 people came to hear our discussion about writing music for games. After the panel finished, me and the six fellas signed autographs for an hour-and-a-half.
I had the opportunity to chat with some of the audience members during the signing to discover more about their passion for game music.
