Last year, Jayson Napolitano wrote an article about his favorite relaxing music from video games.
After about 200 fans responded with their favorite sleepy game music, Napolitano decided to put together an album with 10 arrangements of calming video game music.
He teamed up with legendary video game composer Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid series, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Bayonetta) to create Game Music Lullabies. Hibino-san, a saxophone player, is in a duo called Gentle Love with pianist AYAKI.
Hibino-san is a fascinating person; not only is he a successful composer, he also is dedicated to exploring the possibilities of music therapy through his hugely successful Hibino Sound Therapy Lab.
The Lab experiments with incredibly high-quality audio, recording in 96k as opposed to 44k or 48k. At such a high definition, many sounds aren't necessarily heard by human ears, but do register to the human body. Hibino-san and his Lab explore how high-definition audio can be used therapeutically.
Game Music Lullabies is lovely. It is indeed quite relaxing. Hibino-san and AYAKI are deliberate about leaving plenty of space in the music to let the mind wander and revel in the sounds.
Hibino-san is responsible for "Prescription for Sleep", one of the most popular sleep-preparedness apps for mobile devices in the world.
If you're in the need for some winding down before bed, it's safe to say Hibino-san has done his homework on music and relaxation.
