Morning Glories: Coming Attractions

Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.

November's a busy month on the concert calendar, with interesting events happening all around our region. This week on Morning Glories, we'll highlight the artistry of four acclaimed soloists and one historic choir — whom you can also see live and in person.

Monday

ON THE RADIO: The Vienna Boys' Choir, in Bernstein's Chichester Psalms
IN PERFORMANCE: This Thursday night in the Minneapolis Basilica, for a program of Mozart, Strauss, and international folk songs

Tuesday

ON THE RADIO: Cellist Tony Ross of the Minnesota Orchestra, playing Rachmaninoff's Sonata
IN PERFORMANCE: With the South Dakota Symphony, in a contemporary classic: "The Protecting Veil," by John Tavener (Nov. 22, 23)

Wednesday

ON THE RADIO: Violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaya (Prokofiev: Concerto No. 2)
IN PERFORMANCE: When she begins her tenure as a new Artistic Partner of the SPCO (concerts beginning Nov. 20)

Thursday

ON THE RADIO: Richard Goode playing Beethoven
IN PERFORMANCE: At his Schubert Club recital, including Beethoven and Brahms, among others (Nov. 11)

Friday

ON THE RADIO: Carol Wincenc, flute (Amy Beach: Variations)
IN PERFORMANCE: With the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra for the world premiere of Tod Machover's "Breathless" (Nov. 9) And the following day, in a solo flute recital at Beckwith Recital Hall, North Dakota State University (Nov. 10)
