If The Imitation Game hadn't received eight Oscar nominations, would we know today who Alan Turing was? That he was a key figure in cracking the Nazis' Enigma code which helped us win World War II, and then later he'd be criminally prosecuted for being gay, which most likely led to his untimely death?
It is one of the hundreds — probably more like thousands — of heart-rending stories of loss that until only recently has seen changed attitudes, hearts and laws.
This weekend, One Voice Mixed Chorus — Minnesota's premier lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and straight allies ensemble — celebrates those people who make LGBT rights a reality in a concert titled, Eat, Drink and Be Married!
Though there will be more somber moments like the haunting "The Touring Test" by Val Regan, the concert is presented as a party, a musical "wedding feast" with new music by St. Olaf College's Christopher Aspaas and a solo singer, Broadway star Michael Gruber.
