"Love can take many forms: the romantic love of St. Valentine's Day, the familial love we feel for our children, parents, siblings and extended relations, or the love that comes when life experiences touch us deeply, and provide us with a richness of memory that time cannot decay. For many people, these memories are often connected with music, which may move us in a way few other things can. In this programme, we celebrate these many and varied aspects of love."
That's what makes The King's Singers Valentine's Day concert in Minneapolis this weekend so special. It's a unique program, never before performed. A musical love-fest created especially for the occasion as a tribute to two special people: Jerry and Cathie Fischer.
The Fischers' close friendship with The King's Singers goes back decades. Jerry and Cathie's lifelong support of arts and culture in Minnesota and beyond is no surprise to anyone who has met them. And it's no surprise to me, because as a child I had the great fortune to grow up across the street from the Fischer family in Michigan. What a gift to see an entire family devoted to music and the arts!
It will be my honor to introduce The King's Singers, and Jerry and Cathie, at Orchestra Hall on Valentine's Day. And to learn more about this amazing collaboration, I caught up with two of the singers last week, on tour in Ireland.
Listen to their conversation, and you'll know that this will truly be a celebration of love.
