Growing up with a musical family, it's no surprise that by age five, John Robert had started to play his first instrument — a hulking, circa-1911 cornet. His first exposure to gaming arrived with a new family computer and the PC games it provided, and it wasn't long before John Robert was hooked.
Though he has a dozen game soundtracks to his name, John Robert isn't strictly a game composer. He also writes for concert band. His latest undertaking, Gods of the North, is a four-movement odyssey exploring the lives and personalities of the Norse Gods.
John Robert sat down with us to talk about his concert works and his most recent game scores. Each features a distinctly different style, from the smoky jazz of Gunpoint to the glistening, meditative tones of Almightree and Fossil Echo. Of particular note for this episode: The tracks from Fossil Echo are exclusive "sneak peeks" provided by the composer himself.
