The bright and bold voices of Angelus

Dana Taylor and the music of Angelus vocal ensemble

Listen to these voices and you're likely to think you're hearing Anuna or Anonymous 4.

It turns out it's neither of those ensembles, though I think the singers in the group you're hearing — known collectively as Angelus — would love it if you thought so!

There are actually seven voices in this ensemble, and they're quite a bit younger than the women in either of the previously mentioned professional groups. Angelus are teenagers in high school — but it's a very special high school: It's called Mt. Vernon High School Fine Arts Academy, and it's located in Mt. Vernon, Ind., situated in the very southwestern corner of that state.

Angelus are touring in Illinois, in Wisconsin and here in Minnesota, where they'll perform at Bethel Lutheran Church in Northfield on Friday, July 24, at 7 p.m., and at St. John the Evangelist Church in St. Paul on Saturday, July 25, at 7 p.m.

Dana Taylor, the music director of Angelus, joined me in the studio to tell us more about these incredibly talented young ladies and to spin some recordings.
