The Minnesota Orchestra remembers Neville Marriner

Back on Oct. 2, 2016, the classical music world lost Neville Marriner, who died at home at the age of 92. Marriner was a violinist who gained renown as a conductor. In 1958, he founded the esteemed London-based chamber orchestra, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. He retired as ASMF's music director in 2011, handing over his leadership role to none other than Joshua Bell. Closer to home, Marriner was the music director of the Minnesota Orchestra from 1978 to 1986. Scroll to the lower portion of this page to view a slideshow retrospective of some of Marriner's career highlights.

When it was scheduling its season, the Minnesota Orchestra originally planned this Friday's concert to be conducted by Marriner. Now, the Minnesota Orchestra will honor the late maestro with a program renamed "A Tribute Concert to Sir Neville Marriner." Conductor Courtney Lewis will take the podium.

Join host Brian Newhouse for the live broadcast of this tribute concert, Friday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m., on Classical MPR.
