Conductor Hugh Wolff is well-known to fans of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for the 19 recordings he did with the SPCO between 1988 and 2000. This week, Wolff performs on the other side of the river when he visits Minneapolis to lead the Minnesota Orchestra in a concert featuring works by Thomas Adès, Béla Bartók and Felix Mendelssohn.
The concert is called "Hugh Wolff Conducts Mendelssohn," casting the spotlight on Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Opus 56, also known as his "Scottish Symphony." There's nothing particularly Scottish about the music itself, but Mendelssohn said the music was inspired after a visit to Edinburgh. See complete program listing below.
