Hear selections from new releases with our weekly Choral Featured Album Fridays at 11 a.m. central on the Choral Stream.
For this week's Choral Featured Album, we present Tyberg: Masses, the Grammy nominated release from the South Dakota Chorale. The record presents works by Austrian composer Marcel Tyberg, whose life was cruelly cut short during the Holocaust.
About the Tyberg Project (from the South Dakota Chorale's website)
With the Tyberg Project, the South Dakota Chorale breathes new life into two lost Masses for choir and organ by Marcel Tyberg, a composer tragically killed at Auschwitz during the Holocaust. Since his life was ended so prematurely, these Masses represent the entirety of his sacred choral output, and SDC presents them for the first time since the composer himself played them for his friends on the last night he was seen. Simple in melodic structure, with bold harmonic development and rich sonorities, Tyberg's Masses spring to life on this groundbreaking recording.
