National Lutheran Choir - April 22, 2023

On Saturday, April 22, YourClassical MPR broadcasted the 2022 premiere of Minnesota composer Steve Heitzeg’s Lament of the Earth. Listen to on-demand audio of the broadcast now!

Composed using several different texts and an African proverb (as cited by Alice Walker), Lament of the Earth is an extended work for chorus, youth choir, alto soloist, timpani, percussion and strings. The piece is designed as an intimate musical encounter between the audience and the Earth. Performers included the National Lutheran Choir, the Minnesota Boy Choir, soloist Clara Osowski and conductor David Cherwien.
