New Classical Tracks - John Mauceri

John Mauceri and the Orchestra Svizzera Italiana: The Korngold Symphony; with Erich Wolfgang Korngold, piano (Supertrain Records)

John Mauceri has had an extraordinary career as a composer and conductor. The one common thread throughout his life has been his commitment to champion the music of abandoned composers. Using his “Indiana Jones skills,” he digs until he finds music he thinks we should know about, especially from those who were affected by World War II. One such forgotten composer is Erich Korngold. Recently, Mauceri was given permission to release a recording he made several years ago of Korngold’s only symphony, a piece he believes is a portrait of the war. Find out more on New Classical Tracks, with host Julie Amacher.
