New Classical Tracks - Jonathan Biss
New Classical Tracks - February 5, 2025

Jonathan Biss, piano: City Stanzas; with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Omer Meir Wellber, conductor (Orchid Classics)

Jonathan Biss has been passionate about Ludwig van Beethoven since he was 8. For the past 10 years, the German composer has been at the heart of a project Biss spearheaded in collaboration with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. The result is five new piano concertos, each one written by a distinguished composer in response to one of Beethoven's piano concertos. The second recording in that series was recently released and features composer Sally Beamish’s Piano Concerto No. 3 (City Stanzas), in response to Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Find out more on New Classical Tracks, with host Julie Amacher.
